The Deep Gorge & River Hike

Hike and wade directly through the cold Langarica River to explore the narrowest, deepest parts of the canyon.

Beyond the main entrance and Kadiut Bridge, the canyon walls narrow significantly. To explore further, you must walk directly in the riverwater, which is cold compared to the nearby thermal baths. This route takes you past hidden springs and caves carved into the limestone.

Because you are walking in the river, water shoes and a dry bag are essential. Heavy rain creates dangerous flash flood conditions, so never enter the deep gorge during or after a storm.

The Narrow Gorge

1-2 hoursWaist-deep wading required

The towering limestone walls close in tightly here, rising up to 150 meters high. Sunlight barely reaches the bottom in some of these stretches. You must wade through water that can reach waist-deep. Plan your hike for July or August when water levels are lowest and safest.

Hidden Upstream Thermal Springs

30 minsQuieter than main pools

Smaller thermal springs are tucked away in the banks deeper into the canyon. These secluded pools are quieter than the main baths and are sometimes slightly warmer. You have to walk about 300 meters past the main bridge to find the first of these hidden springs.

Canyon Caves

20 minsGuide required for deep exploration

Karst caves formed directly within the limestone walls dot the canyon. Some of these caves are the source of the sulfurous thermal waters flowing into the river. Admire them from the entrance. Only explore deep inside if you are accompanied by a professional canyoning guide.
