Both canyons offer distinct experiences. Osumi Canyon draws visitors for its scale and water sports. Langarica Canyon attracts hikers and those looking to soak in the warm Bënjë Thermal Baths at its entrance.

Should I visit Osumi Canyon or Langarica Canyon?

Choose Osumi Canyon for spring rafting, and Langarica Canyon for summer river hiking or soaking in thermal pools.

Osumi Canyon is much larger and wider. It requires high water levels for rafting, making spring the ideal time. Langarica is a narrow gorge stretching 4.5 to 5 kilometers. Its river runs low in summer, allowing you to hike directly through the water.

What are the main attractions at Langarica Canyon?

The canyon features the Bënjë Thermal Baths and the 18th-century Kadiut Bridge.

At the entrance, you will find 6 to 8 natural sulfur-rich pools. These pools maintain a lukewarm temperature averaging 22°C to 30°C. You can soak here for free. The historic single-span Kadiut Bridge arches over the river nearby.

How do the landscapes compare?

Osumi is a massive, wide gorge, while Langarica is a narrow, intimate canyon.

Langarica Canyon features sheer limestone walls that range from 30 meters to 150 meters high. The cold Langarica River runs through the center. In some narrow sections, sunlight barely reaches the bottom.

Do you need a guide for these canyons?

You need a guide for rafting in Osumi and for hiking deep into Langarica.

You can visit the entrance of Langarica Canyon and the thermal baths independently. However, the National Agency of Protected Areas advises using licensed guides for deep canyon sections. Exploring the deep gorge after heavy rain is highly dangerous due to flash floods.

What is the best time of year to visit Langarica Canyon?

Summer is best for hiking, while late spring and early autumn are ideal for the baths.

During July and August, the river water is low. This makes it safer to wade through the narrow gorge. If you only want to soak in the pools, April through June or September through October offer smaller crowds.
